French portable power developer Pess Energy has introduced the FlyWatt, a compact 10 kWh battery-powered generator designed specifically for film and TV production crews. The latest addition to Pess Energy’s lineup of off-grid solutions, the FlyWatt is part of the company’s commitment to providing sustainable, battery-based power sources for a variety of industries, including cinematography, construction, events, and emergency services.
The FlyWatt uses lithium-ion battery technology and can be recharged with the 1,500W Ekla silicon solar panel kit, which comes in its own travel case for easy packing and transport. The portable generator was developed with the needs of film and TV production crews in mind, offering a silent, eco-friendly alternative to traditional gas-powered generators.
“Our primary market is cinema production, where environmental concerns are critical,” a Pess Energy spokesperson told pv magazine. “Film productions face stricter environmental standards and are required to use more sustainable tools. The comfort of using battery-powered generators is another significant advantage. Unlike gas-powered units, our generators are completely silent and odor-free, which is especially beneficial in industries like cinema and construction.”
The FlyWatt measures 69 cm x 56 cm x 85.5 cm, compact enough to allow up to six paired units to be stacked in a cargo van, delivering up to 66 kW of power. Each 10 kWh unit provides six powerbank sockets, with options for 16A and 32A connections. The unit can be fully recharged within three hours using a standard domestic socket.
The included Ekla solar kit allows for daily recharging of up to 8,800 Wh, depending on weather conditions. The solar kit consists of four monocrystalline panels, each with 18% power conversion efficiency, and features a collapsible kickstand for optimal positioning.
Ekla kits can also recharge other Pess Energy products, such as the Bobine 5 kWh battery, in six hours, while the larger 10 kWh Wattman requires two Ekla kits for a full recharge in the same time. The total weight of the panels and their transport case is 100 kg, and the panels are expected to have a 10-year lifespan.
Founded in 2021 and based in Marseille, Pess Energy is supported by French venture capital firms, including Rise Partners, Région Sud Investissement, Crédit Agricole Alpes Provence, and CAAP Création. The company continues to innovate in the portable power sector with a focus on sustainability and ease of use for a wide range of applications.
