Delta Air Lines to Provide Engine Maintenance for UPS Fleet under 10-Year Agreement

Delta Air Lines’ technical operations division, Delta TechOps, has secured a 10-year contract with UPS Airlines to provide engine maintenance services for its fleet of Boeing 757-200 converted freighters. The deal, announced last week on LinkedIn and confirmed during Delta’s first-quarter earnings briefing by CEO Ed Bastian, will see Delta support the Pratt & Whitney PW2037 engines powering UPS’s 757 freighters.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our MRO team and contributes to long-term revenue diversification and growth,” said Bastian, highlighting the importance of the deal for Delta’s broader business strategy. Both Delta and UPS are based in Atlanta.

UPS currently operates a fleet of 75 Boeing 757 freighters, which serve as a key component of its global logistics operations.

Delta TechOps, one of the largest maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) providers in North America, also services other airlines’ fleets. Major carriers like American Airlines and Lufthansa also have their own MRO units, offering services not only to their own aircraft but also to external customers for additional revenue.

In a related development, Pratt & Whitney announced an agreement last week to increase its annual overhaul capacity for geared turbofan (GTF) engines by 30% at Delta TechOps’ Atlanta facility over the next decade. This expansion will allow Delta to overhaul up to 450 GTF engines annually, supporting newer aircraft like the Airbus A220 and A320 neo family.

Beyond its core airline operations, Delta generates additional revenue through non-core businesses such as its MRO division and its jet fuel refinery near Philadelphia.
