Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has formed a strategic alliance with Italy-based Nuovo Pignone International s.r.l. to jointly pursue compressor train revamp projects within India’s fertilizer sector. The partnership was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 9, 2025.
Under the agreement, Nuovo Pignone International will serve as BHEL’s nominated vendor with a clearly defined scope of work. The MoU is set to remain in effect for 10 years or until mutually terminated by both parties.
BHEL stated in a regulatory filing that the collaboration aims to bolster its position in the Renovation and Modernisation (R&M) segment of the fertilizer industry. The partnership is expected to enable BHEL to capture a 50% financial stake in upcoming compressor revamp opportunities.
This strategic move enhances BHEL’s competitiveness in the high-potential fertilizer market by leveraging Nuovo Pignone’s global expertise in advanced compressor technology. It also aligns with BHEL’s broader strategy to expand its technical capabilities and market share in key industrial sectors.
