Ireland-based GKinetic Energy is set to test its 3 kW waterpower generator at the Ifremer flume tank in Boulogne sur Mer, France, as part of its preparations for upcoming commercial pilot projects later this year.
The testing initiative is backed by the RISEnergy Transnational Access (TA) programme, a European Union-funded project designed to fast-track the development of renewable energy technologies.
GKinetic Energy praised the Ifremer facility, calling it world-class. The flume tank is equipped with cutting-edge laser technology, enabling precise flow mapping around and through the company’s turbines. Through the use of 3D laser Doppler velocimetry, the team can analyze water flow through their patented counter-rotating turbines, enhancing efficiency.
The company expressed eagerness to continue collaboration with the Ifremer team this summer.
In a significant milestone, GKinetic Energy also secured a patent for its hydrokinetic turbine in India in March 2024, marking the tenth patent granted to the company.
