FENAKA Corporation announced on Tuesday that it is working to resolve the ongoing power outages on Kendhoo Island in the Baa Atoll by dispatching a new generator to the island on Wednesday. The move comes after technical difficulties with one of the island’s two 400 kW generators caused water and fuel to mix, leading to a disruption in the power supply.
The malfunctioning generator, which had been recently overhauled by a FENAKA technical team, had been operational for just 15 days before experiencing further technical issues. As a result, it was shut down, leaving the island reliant on the remaining two generators, which were unable to meet the island’s full power demand. This shortage caused power cuts across several feeders on Kendhoo.
FENAKA’s technical team responded promptly, traveling to Kendhoo on Tuesday night to address the situation. By 1:15 am Wednesday, power had been restored to all parts of the island.
To prevent future disruptions, FENAKA is sending a 400 kW generator to the island, which is expected to be operational within 48 hours. This new generator will serve as a permanent solution to the power shortage, ensuring a stable electricity supply for the island’s residents.
The island had been without power from Tuesday afternoon until the early hours of Wednesday morning.
