U.S. tractor sales across all classes saw a significant drop of 13.6% in March 2025 compared to the same month in 2024, according to the latest data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).
“We are pleased to see growth in Canadian equipment sales, but the decrease in U.S. agricultural tractor and combine sales highlights the complexities currently impacting the market,” said Curt Blades, senior vice president of AEM. “The uncertainty driven by tariffs and the broader agricultural economy continues to weigh on sales. However, the resilience and adaptability of agricultural equipment manufacturers keep us optimistic about the long-term prospects of the industry. AEM is committed to advocating for policies that support growth and innovation in the agricultural equipment sector.”
Tractor Sales
In March 2025, total farm tractor sales amounted to 16,180 units, down from 18,724 in March 2024. Year-to-date, 36,269 farm tractors have been sold, marking a 15.1% decrease compared to the 42,701 sold during the same period last year. Farm tractor inventory stood at 118,280 units in March.

Combine Sales
Sales of self-propelled combines also saw a sharp decline, falling by 37.7% in March 2025, with only 241 units sold compared to 387 units last year. Year-to-date, 552 combines have been sold, down 56.5% from 1,201 units during the same period in 2024. Inventory for self-propelled combines began at 1,063 units in March.
The downturn in tractor and combine sales underscores ongoing challenges in the agricultural equipment market, affected by economic uncertainty, tariffs, and shifting agricultural demands. Despite these challenges, the industry continues to demonstrate resilience, with manufacturers adapting to the evolving landscape.
