Choice Machinery Group Partners with NSWM to Boost Workforce Development

by Annie

Choice Machinery Group, a leading manufacturer in the woodworking and cabinet-making industry, has partnered with Next Step of West Michigan (NSWM) to enhance workforce development and skills training in the trades.

Through its subsidiary, Ritter Machinery, the company has donated essential woodworking equipment to NSWM’s training programs, equipping individuals with the technical expertise needed for careers in the industry.

The contribution includes a door and face frame clamping table, a pocket hole cutter, and a horizontal edge belt sander—critical tools that bolster NSWM’s hands-on training. These machines allow trainees to develop industry-standard skills in cabinetry, furniture construction, and joinery techniques, increasing their employability with local businesses.

Empowering the Workforce

NSWM, a faith-based nonprofit, provides job training and employment opportunities for individuals facing challenges such as housing instability, past incarceration, or addiction. The organization also supports high school students through a wood product manufacturing program that integrates technical training with life skills development.

“This partnership with Ritter Machinery elevates the quality of training we offer,” said David Bult, Executive Director at NSWM. “With access to professional-grade equipment, our participants gain the craftsmanship and technical skills necessary for sustainable careers in woodworking and related trades.”

Each donated machine plays a key role in skill-building:

R275EAO Combination Clamping Table – Streamlines face frame and cabinet door assembly.

R901 Horizontal Edge Belt Sander – Provides precision finishing for woodworking projects.

R2061 Pocket Hole Machine – Introduces participants to concealed pocket screw joinery, a technique widely used in cabinetry.

By replicating a professional workshop environment, the equipment enables trainees to master safety protocols, technical competencies, and best practices essential to the trade.

A Long-Term Commitment

This donation marks the start of an ongoing collaboration between Ritter Machinery and NSWM, reflecting the company’s dedication to workforce development and community empowerment.

“At Choice, we invest in the next generation of craftsmen and tradespeople,” said Jake Mulder, General Manager at Choice Machinery Group. “By equipping NSWM with the right tools, we help create meaningful career opportunities and build a stronger workforce for the future.”

This partnership underscores Choice Machinery Group’s commitment to fostering skills training initiatives that uplift individuals and strengthen communities.
